Editorial

Contree the end of an era ...

In the editorial of its first issue in 1977 it was anticipated that the publication of Contree would be an important development in co-ordinating and advancing the study of local and regional history in South Africa. Has this been achieved? Readers' comments on the journal might provide some answers.

Om te probeer peil wat Contree die afgelope 15 jaar bereik het en om die impak daarvan op sy lesers én vakgebied vas te stel, kan kommentaar en uitsprake van belangstellendes dalk selfverklarend wees.

• 'This journal is to be commended for its excellent presentation. It is a most valuable reference work and of the highest merit.'

After 15 years Contree is about to enter a new era: the Rand Afrikaans University will take over the publication of the journal early next year. We at the HSRC, and it is to be hoped every subscriber, wish the new 'parents' - and their 'child' - every success for the future!

Waar Contree van Januarie 1992 af deur die Randse Afrikaanse Universiteit oorgeneem en bedryf sal word, wil ons as RGN-redaksie die nuwe verbintenis alle voorspoed toewens!
