Abstract

THE CALCULATION OF DIFFERENTIAL RESPONSE FUNCTIONS OF COSMIC RAYS. A theoretical review is given of existing and new methods for the calculation of differential response functions from latitude surveys. The two existing methods, namely the Potch method and the Dorman method are both based on specific transformations, followed by d regression analysis. As these methods have some undesirable features, a new technique, which is based on Fourier analysis, was used. To implement the theory concerning the calculation of differential response functions of cosmic ray monitors, three latitude surveys which had been conducted during succesive periods of minimum solar activity, were used. The data had been uniformly corrected for pressure dependence, primary intensity variations and atmospheric temperature dependence, assuring that no spurious effects were present in the data. ...
