Abstract

The study explores conflict as an inherent element within human existence and organizational functioning. It highlights that if conflict is not managed correctly, it can be destructive to productivity and efficient functioning. The research aims to conceptualise conflict dynamics through literature (including theories by Karl Marx and Ralf Dahrendorf) and an empirical study involving employees of a local authority. The findings show that conflict-handling styles vary by sex, home language, and years of employment, and that the unavailability of resources is a primary cause of conflict in the workplace.
