Abstract

The crystal structure of TlC1 3 (phen) has been determined from an X-ray study of a single crystal. The triclinic cell, space group Pi, with a= 9.44 i, b = 10~94 R, c = 7,55 R, a= 98.2°, S = 96.6° and ~= 115.9°, contains two formula units. The structure was determined by standard crystallographic techniques and the atomic parameters were refined by a fullmatrix least square procedures. The value of R is The thallic ion has a square-pyramidal environment and the bonding between the central atom and the ligands is covalent. The structure explains many of the obaerved physical properties of the compound and a s~uarepyramidal structure is proposed for TlC1 3 (bip).
