Abstract
This study investigates the role and evaluation of employee training within organisations. Since organisations depend on competent personnel to achieve their economic and operational objectives, training and employee development are essential. However, training is both costly and time-consuming, making it necessary to evaluate its effectiveness and determine whether the intended objectives have been achieved. The study consists of both a theoretical and an empirical investigation. The theoretical component examines employee training, learning processes, training needs, training methods, the planning and implementation of training programmes, and methods for evaluating training effectiveness. Particular attention is given to the systematic and scientific evaluation of training outcomes. The empirical investigation evaluates the work performance of production foremen in a motor assembly plant after they had completed a training programme. The findings indicate a definite improvement in the work performance of the production foremen who received training. The study concludes that the evaluation of training should be scientifically planned and carefully controlled. Evaluation should also be conducted over different periods to determine the lasting effects of training. Furthermore, the effective implementation and evaluation of training programmes require the active commitment, participation and involvement of management throughout the entire training process
