Abstract
The history of the Dermanyssidae is summarized in the first
chapter. This is followed by a brief discussion on the material
methods and techniques employed in the investigation. The nomenclature which is adopted by the author in the text as well as
the general characteristics of the subfamily Laelapinae is discussed.
Nine new species, representing two new genera, viz. Evansolaelaps and Laelaspisella, are described, figured and keyed .
For the genus Evansolaelaps, the species punctissima, lingula us,
trisitosus, angolaensis, curtipilus, kaboloensis and leleupi are
described as new to science. The genus Laelaspisella is represented
by epigynialis and macrodorsalis. Five new species of the
genus Androlaelaps sens, lat. are described, figured and keyed,
viz.~- (Androlaelaps) scutalis, ~ . (Androlaelaps) f r anzi,
A. (Androlaelaps) kununeensis, ~- (Haemolaelaps) kenyaensis and
A. (Haemolaelaps) macrosetoses. A brief discussion of he distribution of the four genera described above is given.
The study is concluded by a brief evaluation of those morphological characteristics which have proved to be of taxonomic
importance at generic and specific level.
