The Calvinistic and Arminianistic interpretations of the doctrine of election are researched and evaluated as well-established and tested paradigms in an attempt to formulate a doctrine of election that is unique to Pentecostal theology. Reference is made to the development of Pentecostal theology from the beginning of the twentieth century, and specifically the development of the concept of election in Pentecostal thought. While considering Calvinism and Arminianism, a specific Pentecostal perspective is developed concerning the sovereignty of God and human responsibility from a Christocentric paradigm. Man’s competence of will is described in relation to God’s sovereignty, Dooyeweerd’s act-structure, and its implications with regards to the Pentecostal doctrine of electionen_US
