The most suitable performance appraisal system for white production supervisors in a ferro-alloy works would be one consisting of a combination between the traditional and highly systematic approach and the behavioral approach emphasizing 1mrtual goal setting. In the traditional system, the employee will be rated against a set of factors relevant for the position of production supervisor. This will be done on a 9-point scale and where a high score will indicate a high performance . With the behavioral approach, objectives will be established for the supervisor by himself and his immediate superior, the production engineer. The end result of this process is a decision that the employee either exceeded, met or did not meet the objectives . Such an appraisal system would provide the supervisor with the information on how well he is doing and what this means for his future. For management this would provide the information necessary to stimulate and guide employee development.en_US
