| dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study was to isolate bacteria capable of growing on organic industrial effluents and producing biosurfactants from these effluents and the characterisation of the produced surfactants. Three organisms were isolated and tested for biosurfactant production during growth on the effluents. The influence of different effluents as well as the influence of two different media was investigated. The results show that the effluents can be used for biosurfactant production. Proteien, lipid en carbohydrate analyses were done on isolated biosurfactant and showed that two different biosurfactants were produced. The surfactant of organism 6 function optimally at lower pH values and organism k's surfactant is relatively pH stable. The surface tension of organism 6's surfactant rises with the salt concentration and organism k's rises with the concentration up to a 10% salt concentration. Both surfactants are temperature sensitive and lose activity bove 40°C. The results show that two biosurfactants with unique properties were be produced from the industrial effluents. | en_US |
