The impact of honour and shame on the decision-making process of multicultural church-planting teams in Turkey

Abstract

This research examines how the elements of honour and shame in Turkish society affect the decision-making process of cross-cultural church-planting teams consisting of Turks and foreigners as they strive to plant churches among Muslims in Turkey. The findings will help improve the decision-making process of teams as they work in this cultural environment. The main themes to be considered are honour and shame, group decision-making and cross-cultural church-planting teams. These themes and their interrelations with the Turkish culture and the Bible will be highlighted. The conclusions of the research will show how cross-cultural teams have been influenced by honour and shame positively and negatively and will determine whether biblical values were upheld or violated. The findings of the research will inform an implementation project which will be a model for equipping church-planting teams in how to engage with issues of honour and shame in decision-making.
