Abstract

Amphibians are a strange, yet fascinating group of organisms that have dominated terrestrial and aquatic habitats for millions of years. Their link between terrestrial and aquatic environments has served as the backbone of vertebrate evolution (Carroll 2009). Africa is a diverse continent, with a vast range of habitat types that have undoubtedly influenced the diversity of amphibians that inhabit the continent. Over the years, there have been several books published on African amphibians. However, most are restricted to certain geographical regions of the continent (Schleich et al. 1996; Rödel 2000; Channing 2001; Channing and Howell 2006; Frétey et al. 2011; Du Preez and Carruthers 2017; Phaka et al. 2017).
