Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess consumer receptiveness to the sporting facility,
Gymnastic Yoga Meditation, in Mogoditshane, a township in Botswana. The township is
the fastest growing township in Botswana in terms of businesses and residential
settlements. World Health Organisation (WHO) reported physical inactivity as risk of
mortality (WHO, 2009). The report noted that people involved in regular physical
activities are said to have lower risks of non communicable diseases. The objectives of
the research therefore included determining factors that influence use of the sporting
facility and how much money people are willing to pay to use the facility.
The study used a cross-sectional descriptive study. Through the use of structured
questionnaires, quantitative data were collected from Mogoditshane households and
business people. 70% of the people who participated in the study are employed .
However, organizational barriers and socio-economic barriers constitute major factors
that prohibit them from enrolling in gym activities.
Against that backdrop, the study recommended that organizations should support their
employees with fitness policies, gym facilities, and other financial resources so as to
encourage them to enrol in gym activities. The study further suggests research to be
conducted in other areas within the country of Botswana.
