Abstract

This research is aimed at helping those interested in drama. Particularly, Setswana drama. The central focus is in directing the reader's comprehension to the various elements contained in Setswana drama. Elements such as characters, plot, message, dialogue, etc., are typical of the intention in this research. It is of utmost importance that any would-be reader of Setswana drama should observe the above-stated principles in relation to the culture of the Batswana. This is necessitated by the fact that drama is designed to imitate man's life. Therefore, Setswana drama is consistent with this requirement. It will be observed that, in the process of exposition of the various principles, there are accompanying examples from different dramas of Setswana. Examples intended to clarifying particular principle(s). As a result, the number of examples depend on the complexity of the principle Cs). Other critics' views are attended to in this research: opposed where they seem unacceptable; supported where they are appreciated; and supplimented where it is necessary. This dimension is considered for purposes of deepening and broadening the reader's objective comprehension of Setswana drama. Finally, the explicit suggestions in the last phase of this research are directed toward cultivating interest in the readers and viewers of Setswana drama. This interest would be measurable by the latter's contribution in Setswana drama by forms of writing. Writers and critics alike are induced to striving for perfection in their spheres. It is in the opinion of this researcher that successful attainment of the objectives contained in this research (i.e. comprehension of Setswana drama and contributions to Setswana drama), will develop, maintain, improve, and probably enhance the quality of Setswana drama.
