Abstract
The inhibition effect of 2-amino-1-methylbenzene
(AMB) on the corrosion of carbon steel in 0.5 M H₂SO₄ was studied by weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques and potentiodynamic polarization methods. The results showed that AMB was a good inhibitor in 0.5 M
H2SO4 and inhibition efficiency increases with AMB concentration to attain 86.11% at 10⁻³M at 298 K. E(%) values obtained from various methods used are reasonably good agreement. The adsorption
of AMB obeyed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Polarization curves showed that AMB acted as a
mixed-type inhibitor in sulfuric acid. The effect of the temperature on the corrosion behavior with
addition of 10⁻³M of the inhibitor was studied in the temperature range 298-328 K, and the thermodynamic parameters were determined and discussed.
