The Prosperity Gospel, frequently referred to as the "Health and Wealth Gospel", has gained significant popularity in recent years despite its psychological ramifications for the well-being of its adherents. Families are drawn to Prosperity Gospel churches in pursuit of material gain and recognition, as promised by these teachings. Followers are encouraged to seek out material wealth, often placing considerable strain on family relationships and leading to financial disputes, instances of gender-based violence, and psychological distress. Consequently, families are often classified according to their possessions, such as houses, vehicles, income, and perceived success. This shift has contributed to the creation of a competitive atmosphere within both society and the church itself. When families' aspirations remain unfulfilled, they may return to their previous congregations in a state of disillusionment, seeking pastoral care and support. The purpose of this study was to investigate the harmful effects of the Prosperity Gospel on the spiritual well-being of families and to examine the ways in which pastors may assist those affected. Osmer's (2008) four tasks for practical theology served as the methodological framework for the research. Initially, the researcher outlined the effects of the Prosperity Gospel on adherents by collecting data through a review of the existing literature. Subsequently, the literature concerning reasons for adherence to the Prosperity Gospel were critically examined. The third stage involved identifying relevant theological resources from a pastoral care perspective that may contribute to improving family well-being. Finally, the study proposed strategies to guide pastors in offering spiritual support to families negatively impacted by the Prosperity Gospel.
