The evaluation of the implementation of key performance areas 1 and 3 of the National Disaster management framework by district municipalities in the Eastern Cape province

Abstract

The study undertaken focussed on the evaluation of the implementation of Key Performance Areas 1 and 3 of the National Disaster Management Framework of 2005 in six District Municipalities of the Eastern Cape Province. The methodology used in the research is well outlined in Chapter 1. In Chapter Two, literature was reviewed to understand practices in other countries and to expand on disaster risk management knowledge. Similarities between South African disaster risk management policies and those of other countries were identified and discussed. The purpose of the study was achieved as the research questions were adequately answered in the research. The performance of district municipalities in the implementation of Key Performance Areas 1 and 3 of the National Disaster Management Framework 2005 was established. In concluding the study recommendations were made to improve on the implementation of the two Key Performance Areas.
