How adult education can be used to develop people and communities socially, economically and politically in Adult Education Centres in the Lichtenburg Area

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out if Adult Education is really significant to the social, economical and political development of adult learners in the Lichtenburg area. The results of the research revealed that adult education can improve the community of Lichtenburg area from the methodology where questionnaires were used, and the adult learners, educators and principals were the subject of the study. The positive responses from questionnaires showed where more efforts should be put, to improve (adults) people socially, economically and politically through the process of adult education. However, from the findings , adults who were enlightened can be able to manage their families and improve for the better future. If 95% of Lichtenburg community have gone through the process of education, they can improve their skills and even join hands together to help the government instead of depending on the government, by building more schools and recreational centers e.g. Mmabana for both adults and children. Every community has a need for able and trained people for the various activities the community deem necessary and this training must be provided for by education. Educating adults 1s not a waste. Literate adults can help in the economy of the country as far as education of their children is concerned. If they are politically aware, economjcally viable and being a sociable community their lives could change and upgrade their standard of living for better and brighter future. Thus, adult education is a tool to improve adult life. The study has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter focuses on the purpose of the study. The area of Adult Education is of crucial importance to the development of the nation. The second chapter is the review of literature. The purpose of this task is to explore what other researchers have discovered and what is the status of Adult Education in other countries. The third chapter looks at the methodology and the analysis of data. It outlines how the data was collected and analyzed. One set of questionnaire was set for supervising educators, adult tutors and adult learners. The fourth chapter based on the findings or results of the study. The findings are briefly discussed and interpreted. Chapter five is about the summary, recommendations and conclusion of the previous chapters of the study.
