Parental involvement in the education of the children has attracted a lot of interest amongst researchers. Even though a lot has been said about parental involvement, parents still neglect their children's schoolwork. This research report assess the effect parental neglect has on primary children's performance. • The argument raised in this research report is that parents lack of interest in the learning programmes of school related matters contribute to a large extend to some different learning difficulties that their children experience in school. To illustrate this contention the report presents and discusses a research study conducted in the area of parental neglect. • The subjects for this study are Primary School learners of the Mmabatho Circuit in the Mafikeng District in the North West Province. There are fourteen primary schools and half served as the sample. • Data was collected by means of a questionnaire and analyzed using the computer with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) programme. • Findings or results generally show that most learners' are neglected. Thus their performance at school is affected. It also shows that when parents are involved the learners' performance generally tends to improve.en_US
