| dc.description.abstract | This pilot study was carried out to determine whether or not the inclusion of a personality test will contribute to the assessment centre programme. In order to emphasise the purpose of the study, it was necessary to look at assessment centres in general. The historical background of Assessment centres are discussed early in the study and indications are that sufficient information is available concerning this relatively modern concept. Assessment centres are therefore discussed in general terms and personality aspects which are essential for effective management are given special attention. Organisatic tend to have their own reasons for prefering certain personality tests. Some of the more known personality tests are discussed and the choice made by an organisation will depend to what extent the test will suit the purpose of the assessment centre being used. The "Structured-Objective-Rorschach Test" (SORT) has been used for this study. The pilot study has been done on eight people who have completed an assessment centre programme and subsequently tested according to the SORT system. Reports concerning both tests have been drawn up and compared with one another. A good correlation has been found between the assessment centre and the SORT as far as personality dimension which are measured in both are concerned. The SORT contributed further to the assessment centre by providing additional explanation for assessment centre behaviour and giving a more complete personality sketch of the participants. The inclusion of a personality test in the assessment centre programme has been considered to be necessary by both the participants and the organisation. The positive results achieved by the pilot study indicates that further research in this area should be carried out. | en_US |
