In this study the induction of the newly appointed deputy principal at a secondary school is researched. By means of a literature study it was determined what induction entails, whom are responsible for the induction of the deputy principal and what role the deputy principal fulfils in the secondary school. A synopsis of the induction problems that the newly appointed deputy principal experiences was obtained. Aspects such as inter-relationship, induction with the staff, organisational culture, post, the parent community and as a professional were dealt with. From the literature study a possible induction programme crystallised. From the empirical investigation undertaken, problems that the newly appointed deputy principal experienced emerged . It was subsequently determined what correlation if any existed, between the biographical and demographical information as well as problems that the newly appointed deputy principal experienced. Finally it was concluded what the aim of the induction was. Guidelines were given for the successful induction of the newly appointed deputy principal at a secondary school.en_US
