dc.description.abstract | This research deals with delegating of tasks and how the principal promotes staff development by means of delegating. From the literature study it seems that the principal as a teacher is educated for tuition rather than management. The role of the principal in school management activities and in the application of staff development is discussed. Several guidelines concerning staff development, as well as different methods in and outside school relations are given. Management development from the inexperienced teacher to the potential principal is related. Delegating as a management function, always includes responsibility and authority. Therefore there are certain reasons why tasks must be delegated and certain principals adhered to. A few examples of tasks delegated and tasks that are unable to be delegated, are given. The advantages and disadvantages of delegating and ways of improving delegating are clearly stated. Statistical interpretations of answers to a questionnaire which was sent out to principals of the East Rand was made and comments which were made from the responses, clarify certain problems which were identified. Certain conclusions and recommendations were made. The recommendations are on delegating and staff development programmes for effective school organisation. | en_US |
