Abstract

The concept of auditing is well known within most organisations and are utilised extensively for financial planning, marketing and strategy formulation. Technology audits on the other hand, are however not so well known. In this thesis, a very simple technique from the literature is applied to perform such an audit on part of a company within the South African Arms Industry. Data derived from the audit, is utilised within the framework of an additional technique to identify core competencies within the same company. The author also suggests how results gained from the combined techniques, can be utilised in management decision-making in the day-to-day- and future management of technology within the company.
