Effects of Employees' Performance Appraisal on job satisfaction: A case for the North West Department of Health

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to investigate whether employee performance appraisal can be used to increase job satisfaction in the workplace within the Department of Health. The study will cover both the theoretical and practical approach to the topic of performance appraisals can improve job satisfactions and improve job performance. A quantitative research design was used to collect data. The approach was used because of the need to obtain the employees' perception and experiences pertaining to job satisfaction on performance appraisals. The sample for the investigation was drawn from a population of 600 employees from North West Department of Health provincial office. Random sampling was used to select respondents. Questionnaires were distributed to the random sample of 234 respondents. 227 were returned thus registering a response rate of 97% . The findings of the study indicate that if the Department can improve job satisfaction among its employees, it can also improve job performance. However, Departmental employees indicate that they are not happy with the Departmental performance appraisal system.
