Alain Dubois has made important contributions to our understanding of African amphibians. His 1981 interpretations based only on earlier literature include the recognition of a series of subfamiles in the Ranidae. Later he added data derived from his work on the morphology of museum specimens, defining new subdivisions within the Raninae. By 2005 he was using molecular evidence to provide a testable working taxonomy, and proposed an arrangement including the epifamily, superfamily, family and subfamily divisionsen_US
