International challenges constrain the international growth of many businesses, irrespective of their sizes. As exports represent a viable strategic option forsmall and medium enterprises (SMEs) to internationalise, it is imperative toidentify the export barriers that hinder these businesses' international growthpotential. In this study, we explore the export barriers that affect theinternationalisation of Mauritian medium-sized textile manufacturing firms. Toachieve the objective of the study, a sequential mixed method was employed.African Journal of Business and EconomicResearch (AJBER)Published considtently since 2006(Online) ISSN 1750-4562 (Print) ISSN 1750-4554Indexed by SCOPUS, UGC CARE List, IBSS, EBSCO,ProQuest,ABDC, SAJE, COPERNICUS, ERIH PLUS, CABELL, Sabinetand J-GateVol. 19, (Issue1), March 2024Pp309-329 .The findings of the study identified three pressing barriers impeding theinternationalisation process of these businesses, namely environmental barriers, managerial competency barriers and foreign market barriers. These results haveimplications for policymakers and medium-sized business owners in initiatingand consolidating the internationalisation presence of SMEs
