Abstract
In the modern industrial world of high speed sophisticated
production equipment, the mechanical condition and availability
of the equipment are of utmost importance.
A competent maintenance staff as well as productive utilization
of this staff is required in order to achieve the above objective
incurring minimum costs.
This study sets out to investigate the effectiveness of a
preventive maintenance system in high speed can making factory.
The effectiveness is measured by setting standards for workshop
costs, workshop productivity, equipment maintenance costs and
equipment availability, and then measure the actual performance
against the standard. The deviation then provides information
to determine corrective action required to correct the situation.
