Tutors' perception towards the use of instructional media in Mafikeng/Mmabatho adult learning centres with specific reference to audio-cassettes

dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to determine emperically tutors' perception on how audio-cassettes as catalysts for cirriculum revitalization can be used in Mafikeng/Mmabatho adult learning centres. The survey method was used to gather the data. A questionnaire was administered to a sample (n=140) respondents. The aim of the questionnaire was to collect information from tutors and adult learners on how audio-cassettes can be uses as teaching and learning tools. Interviews were also conducted to mangers (n=JO). The subjects of the study were learners (n=100), tutors (n=40) and managers (n=10). The survey population was drawn from ten (n=10) adult centres in Mafikeng district of the North West province. The empirical investigation conducted revealed that: There is lack of audio materials in Mafikeng/Mmabatho centres. Tutors perceive audio-cassettes instruction as a unique teaching method. Tutors encounters some problems when using audio-cassettes in adult centres. Tutors need to be trained in the use of audio formats. The condusion drawn from the study is that: Efforts should be to made to equip adult centres with human, material and financial resources to enable them to fulfill the objectives. Audio-instruction has been found useful and effective in teaching, adult learners. Education is a dynamic field, from time to time tutors should be exposed to new ideas/ methods and techniques through in-service training, workshops/ conferences and seminars. The following recommendations were made by the researcher: There should be a provision of both material and financial resources in adult centres. Audi-instruction should be clearly integrated into adult education curriculum. Tutors need to be well trained in the use of audio formats.en_US
