A framework for implementing a scalable business intelligence system

| dc.description.abstract | Data is growing exponentially, and it is becoming more complex to manage and analyse. Business Intelligence (BI) is one way of managing and analysing large datasets. BI encompasses a collection of software tools that analyse large datasets to present analytical findings such as reports and charts to help organisations make correct data-driven decisions. However, according to research, only 30% of existing BI implementations are successful. In addition, only 26% of organisations have fully embraced BI processes and tools. Besides the low success rates, research has linked the huge number of failed BI projects to a lack of a standard framework, and a lack of understanding of the critical success factors that assure the success of a BI system. As a result, the goal of this research was to first create a new framework for developing a scalable BI system. The framework was created using existing studies and approaches that had previously been used to implement BI systems. Furthermore, various critical success factors were measured and analysed to validate the BI system's success. Following a review of the current literature, several success factors that were widely used to quantify the success of information systems were discovered. This included system quality, information quality, system usage, and user satisfaction. Using the proposed framework, a scalable BI system was created for an energy saving company. More than 70 unique BI reports were created using the BI system. This had a beneficial influence on the company because the value of their data offering to their clients increased. A user survey was also created to obtain user satisfaction ratings from various BI system users. More than 80% of users were pleased with the BI system's implementation and success. Furthermore, over 60% of the users were happy with the system quality and information quality of the BI system. Thus, based on the BI system's implementation, it was clear that the study was able to address the need for a scalable BI system. The survey's findings demonstrated that the study was able to address all the success factors that were discovered, indicating that the BI system implementation was indeed successful. | en_US |
