Introduction to the Study Globally scalable technological product development (GSTPD) holds immense potential for economic growth and job creation in South Africa. However, there is a need to better understand the frameworks and support systems that enable residents to pursue GSTPD, particularly in the Western Cape and Gauteng provinces. Objectives This study aims to explore existing frameworks in South Africa that enable residents to pursue GSTPD, focusing on the Western Cape and Gauteng provinces. The research analyses the challenges and opportunities faced by residents in these regions, drawing on a comprehensive literature review and empirical data from semi-structured interviews. Results The study identifies key factors influencing the success of GSTPD, including access to funding, a skilled workforce, robust digital infrastructure, a supportive government, and a thriving academic community. It also highlights the importance of understanding global markets, developing a strong value proposition, and fostering collaboration within the technology ecosystem. These factors collectively contribute to creating an environment conducive to innovation and technological advancement, enabling residents to develop products that can compete on a global scale. Study Contribution and Significance By examining the key factors, the study provides valuable insights into the current state of support for technological product development in key regions of South Africa. The findings can be used to inform the development of more effective strategies to promote innovation and drive economic growth through technological advancement. This research serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, entrepreneurs, and educational institutions seeking to understand and enhance the frameworks that enable residents to pursue GSTPD successfully.
