The determinants of the education system in Gazankulu
Abstract
This research study concentrates on exposing the determinants of the education system in Gazankulu. It is universally accepted that there are factors which cause the development of an education system. An education system has both universal and individual factors that make it a unique education system. The problem is "which are these individual factors in Gazankulu which make it a unique education system?" This research aims at revealing these determinants that give shape to the course of development of the education system in Gazankulu. Both the literature study and the interview methods were used. Interviews conducted verified information derived from literature study as well as to provide new information regarding education in Gazankulu. Chapter 2 presents a theory on education systems, thus forming a base on which Gazankulu Education System can be evaluated.
Chapter 3 gives a background information about Gazankulu. This includes the geographical position, climate and rainfall, language and population, historical past and economy. This was considered necessary for a reader to understand the position of education in Gazankulu to be presented in chapter 4.
In chapter 4 the actual position of education in Gazankulu is given. The components of the education system in Gazankulu are described. This enables the reader to evaluate the Gazankulu Education System against the background of the theoretical structure of the education system presented in chapter 2.
Chapter 5 presents the determinants of the eduLilti0n system in Gazankulu. These determinants are classified into two groups, viz. the universally accepted determinants and those originating from within Gazankulu and which are unique to the education system of Gazankulu.
Chapter 6 summarises the preceding chapters. The findings are presented. Recommendations on each determinant having an adverse effect on the education system of this national state are given, with a view to effecting improvement.
