Hierdie artikel bespreek een so 'n groep: "The Ladies Relief Committie" van Oos-Londen.
dc.description.abstract• Summary: Before the South African War started in October 1899, there was a flood of Uitlander refugees who sought refuge mostly in the coastal towns. Refugee Relief Committees, like the Mansion House Fund, sprang up to assist them. Mostly men have received the accolades for this philanthropic work but in many cases it was the women's groups which led the way. This article looks at one such group: The Ladies Relief Committee at East London.
