Riglyne vir maatskaplikewerkhulpverlening aan die vrou in die hoër inkomstegroep tydens die egskeidingsproses
Abstract
The increasing incidence of divorce worldwide and also in South Africa, is an indication
of the scope of the problem and the task that social workers and other professionals
have in this regard. Divorce is a traumatic event for all the parties involved and occurs
in all income groups of the community. Most people who are affected by divorce
experience a need for therapeutic involvement.
It is especially the woman in the higher income group who often rely on the husband's
profession and income, and who was financially dependant on the husband whilst she
was the homemaker, who needs professional help. It is nevertheless clear that whilst
this group of women would seek the help of the best divorce attorney, they would not,
because of the possibility of stigmitation, seek the help of a professional divorce
counsellor. This study seeks to determine the problems that women in the higher
income group experience during the divorce process, and to point out the shortcomings
relating to social work intervention.
It would appear that women often do not make provision for financial, emotional and
spiritual independence before and during their marriage.
