'n Ondersoek na die seleksie van beplanners by 'n vliegtuigaanleg
Abstract
In any organization it is essential that the worker
experience job satisfaction in order to be able to
identify himself with the organization to which he
supplies his services.
A worker will mainly experience job satisfaction
if he has a sense of achievement in his work.
However, if a worker is misplaced in his job, the
sense of achievement is taken away from him.
Due to the fact that the Atlas Aircraft Corporation
is a very strategical industry, the correct placement,
especially of key workers, takes precedence. With
this object in mind, a study was undertaken and the
specific purpose of this study was to develop a valid
test battery by which planners could be effectively
selected.
Because an aircraft planner is chosen mainly from
among the ranks of the organization's artisans,
the emphasis in the literary study is on internal
selection.
The following selection techniques were critically
analysed :
i The personal information file
ii The job application form
iii The interview
iv The selection test and all the necessary
requirements with which such a test must
comply.
The experimental study was commenced with an
analysis of the work involved in a planner's job.
After the man specifications were obtained from
this work analysis, we preceded to look for
possible performance predictors.
In the preliminary research a number of possible
predictors were obtained and the correlation of
each with the work performance of 17 planners was
determined.
The two tests which showed the best results, were
the mental alertness test of the high level battery ,
together with the diagram test of the programmer
battery. The combination of these two tests
was responsible for a fully positive correlation
between test and work performance (r.bis 1).
The rest of the investigation was therefore concluded
with only the combined mark of the selected tests
as a test mark. For this investigation the
criteria remained work performance and the test
group consisted of 46 aircraft planners. The result
was an r.bis of ,87 and therefore it is recommended
that the above-mentioned test should be used for
the selection o f aircraft planners. The minimum
cut-off points which must be used, were determined
as follows:
Block diagram test 35%
Mental alertness test 45%
Complete test 40%
or a stanine of 6
