Die bestuur en kontrole van 'n dataverwerkingsdepartement
Abstract
In many organizations computers have become a way of life.
A number of companies were quite satisfied with their computer, but a very large number were not. It seems that the
problem lies in the fact that management not always knew what
they really expected from their computers and that there always
existed a communication gap between top management and the
computer personnel. The aim of this work is therefore to describe and explain the functions of a data processing department as well as the controls over such a department.
In chapter two attention is given to the role of the data
processing department in the organization. Chapter three is
devoted to the location of the data processing department in
the corporate structure as well as the structure of the computer department itself.
Chapter four describes the personnel that is required for a
data processing department: first the selection of employees,
their education and training and then also the displacement of
personnel.
Chapter five is devoted to the controls of a data processing
department from the management's viewpoint. It has been divided
into seven types of controls: pre-installation controls, organizational controls, development controls, operations controls,
documentation controls and outside data centre controls.
