'n Taksonomiese studie van die erythraeoidea en calyptostomatoidea [acari, parasitenini] van die Ethiopiese wyk
Abstract
A revision of the systematics of the Erythraeoidea and Calyptostomatoidea
is given in an effort to clarify the position of the different genera and
the higher taxons to such an extent that any revision of these two superfamilies in the future will fit into this framework.
A complete control list of species is not attempted: first, because it is
doubtful whether this can be achieved for some of the regions, unless the
type material were accessible, or, in cases where the original material has
for some or other reason been lost fresh material from the same habitat could
be obtained. Secondly, the earlier descriptions of the Erythraeoidea and
Calyptostomatoidea (for all the continents) are so incomplete that it is
difficult, or well nigh impossible, to place the different species in their
correct genera with any degree of certainty. Another factor is the in=
accessibility of important overseas collections, viz. that of Berlese in
Florence. A fourth problem of nomenclature is encountered with certain
ill-defined taxons, viz. that of Oudeman 1s in his last publication on the
Erythraeoidea (1941), in which he attempted to erect new taxons for certain
unrecognisable descriptions made in byegone days, eg. by Hermann (1804) and
Koch (1837). The recommendations and decisions of the International Commission of Zoological Nomenclature and other recent proposals are used as
guidance .
