Group 10 dithiocarbamate complexes for biological applications and as single source precursors to metal sulphide nanoparticles

The easy functionalization of dithiocarbamates has offered innovative possibilities to different structural moieties which are versatile in both materials and medicinal chemistry. They serve as precursors to metal sulphide nanoparticles, thin films and platforms for novel semiconductor nanomaterials. This is due to their ability to undergo clean thermal decomposition with little or no impurities, resulting into their respective metal sulphides in the nanometric dimension. In medicinal chemistry, the synergy exhibited by metals and the dithiocarbamate ligand provides new pathway for the discovery of useful therapeutic agents with enhanced activity. This thesis reports a series of dithiocarbamate ligands and complexes. Ten different dithiocarbamate ligands have been synthesized from primary and- secondary amines, and also secondary amines prepared from the condensation reaction involving Schiff base compounds. .....
