    Abstract
The church has a calling with regard to peace which she may not or neglect or hand over to any peace movement. The church must not lose her right to function as a critic with regard to the state, e.g. via chaplains. The state does not possess any unalterable greatness but because of sin it must be brought under the searching light of God's Word. A mondial approach has become a necessity of life. We argue that the armed forces should fulfil a manifold task as an army of peace , and that it should not be employed for unattainable purposes. Conscientious objectors ought to be given some alternative constructive social work to perform. A meaningful contribution towards peace can also be made scientifically from polemology (and irenology) and the theological ethic.
