Abstract

This paper presents the design and analysis of Permanent Magnet Switching Flux Motor (PMSFM) for hybrid electrical vehicle application. The design is intended to obtain a cost effective, efficient motor with small flux leakage, low cogging torque, and high power to mass ratio. For this reason, two configurations of the motor - with inner and outer rotor - are proposed. The performance characteristics of the two models are compared in terms of the electromagnetic torque, cogging torque, and back EMF using 3-D Finite Element Analysis (FEA). To further validate the proposed design, the performance of the motor has been verified by experimental measurements on the single phase motor prototype
