Abstract
Cellphone banking has been introduced in South Africa by many banks. In particular, banks in Mafikeng have established the opportunity to capture the market of its users and those who do not have bank accounts through this new technology. However, it is not known whether or not the students at North-West University (NWU), Mafikeng Campus have accepted and use cellphone banking. Therefore this study sought to understand the student's intentions to adopt and use cellphone banking technology in carrying out banking functions. To carry out this study, a quantitative methodology, buttressed by the underlying model of the technology acceptance model (TAM) components was tested among 370 respondents. The model was also used to evaluate factors that influence students to adopt new technology. The findings found that many of the students in NWU Mafikeng campus use cellphone banking. The study also found that the students have positive perceptions about cellphone banking, but some factors must be concerned to increase acceptance and usage of the platform.
