    Abstract
Social media provides organisations the opportunity to engage in two-way communication with stakeholders. Weg!, WegRy and WegSleep magazines use Facebook to communicate with users, determine their needs and views and as such establish a strong relationship with them. It is however necessary to manage communication by means of Facebook strategically to obtain the Weg magazines’ vision, mission and goals. The extent to which the various Weg magazines manage Facebook communication strategically, was researched qualitatively by means of semi-structured interviews with the editor-in-chief of the Weg!, WegRy and WegSleep magazines, as well as the social media manager and web editor, who are responsible for the communication on the Facebook pages. A qualitative content analysis of the Weg!, WegRy and WegSleep Facebook pages were conducted to determine whether it adheres to the criteria for strategic communication management and as such facilitate strong relationships with users. Although the Weg magazines does not employ a formal communication strategy, they intuitively apply the principles of strategic communication management, especially concerning environmental scanning, to establish strong relationships with their Facebook page users. It is specifically the interactivity between the various magazines, their users as well as amongst the users themselves that strengthens the Weg community. Several recommendations were made to strategically manage communication by means of the Weg magazines’ Facebook pages
