    Abstract
The research was an attempt to understand the condition of the insulation system and to classify the data according to its condition. Data mining processes was used to create a model to gain insight into the data and the condition of the insulation system. An analysis was done using self-organizing maps. The model thus created was compared to the expert's assessment. The patterns in the different features of the model due to ageing were observed and classified. The model correlated well with the expert's opinion. New data was qualitatively assessed and classified according to the deterioration of the insulation system using the model
