Abstract

This paper presents a study on energy losses in the industrial sector caused by low actual efficiency of induction motors (IMs). The main reasons are discussed and an efficiency analysis of a 3-phase induction motor, commonly used in industry, presented to compare such motors' nominal and actual efficiencies. Based on the difference between nominal and actual efficiency, energy loss is calculated for a particular motor. Conclusions about how energy savings depend on operating efficiency of induction motors are made and possible ways of increasing actual efficiency of induction motors provided
