    Abstract
Forensic medical assistants of the SAPS are often exposed to extremely stressful work circumstances. Research regarding their coping strategies and the relation thereof with personality traits are therefor relevant. The objective of the research was to determine the relation between personality traits and coping strategies of the forensic medical assistants in the SAPS. A correlation design was used as a research design. The experimental group was selected by means of an availability sample and consisted of forensic medical assistants (n = 29) within the SAPS. The NEO-PI-R, the Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire, the COPE and the Coping Strategy Indicator (CSI) were used as measuring instruments. From the results it was clear that there is a significant relation between personality and coping.
