Die 2001-omdigting van die Psalms na vyf jaar

Abstract

In 2001 a new version of the Afrikaans Psalter was published. It contains 150 hymns in a strophic version by T.T. Cloete, eight by Lina Spies, two by Andries Breytenbach, two by Antjie Krog and one by Elsabe Kloppers. This new Psalter was welcomed by many churches, but some persons had severe criticism of this new Psalter. This article discusses the way followed from the Biblical Psalm text to the new strophic version, as well as criticism related to the nature of a strophic version of the Psalms and criticism related to matters of principle, such 'as the messianic character of certain Psalms and the theology of the new Psalter.
