The study presented, is a mini-dissertation on the contextualisation of the gospel for people in an identity crisis. The San from the Omaheke-region, are used as a special reference. The San from the Omaheke-region consist of the Nharo, Ju/’hoan and the !Xun. The purpose of this study is to research the reason for the San’s identity crisis; to ascertain whether or not it is possible to contextualize the gospel in the case of an identity crisis and lastly to propose a provisional missionary paradigm for the contextual evangelisation of the San from the Omaheke-region. Chapter one is introductory. It is an introduction to the subject and will explain the goals, method, presentation and delimitation of this mini-dissertation. Chapter two is the background of the San from the Omaheke-region. Here, the terms identity and culture, as well as the link between the two terms are explained. It also sketches the identity of the San from the early 1900’s. Chapter three sketches the identity crisis of the San. Firstly the term identity crisis is defined and explained. The San from the Omaheke-region’s identity crisis is then explained. It is done mainly by identifying the factors and indicating the manner in which the identity of the San from the Omaheke-region has changed. Chapter four then researches the possibility of contextualizing the gospel to people in an identity crisis. It also gives a provisional missionary paradigm to do contextual evangelisation to the San from the Omaheke-region. Chapter five concludes that contextualizing the gospel to people in an identity crisis is indeed possible. It also concludes that the San from the Omaheke-region does in fact have an identity crisis, influenced mainly by the oppression of bigger and stronger nations, the impact of westernisation and their own pessimistic worldview. Chapter five finally concludes that the provisional missionary paradigm should focus on the building of a new identity in Christ. This should be done by focusing primarily on the creation account from the Bible, and integrating the San from the Omaheke-region into the Christian family. The package of the contextual evangelisation should also be in an audio-visual form, which in turn is brought in the native tongue of the different San groups from the Omaheke-region.en_US
