'n Model van die faktore wat die sukses van onderrigleer van tegnologie-gebaseerde onderwerpe beïnvloed
Abstract
It seems as though there are groups of learners who experience more problems with the mastering of technology-based subjects than other (non-technology-based) subjects. Existing research points to specific factors that figure strongly in the success of the learning of technology-based subjects. In existing research these factors are, however, viewed in isolation and are not evaluated empirically in all instances. In this research the influence of various factors is investigated, compared and empirically evaluated together. The objective of this study is to develop a model of the factors that influences the learning of technology-based subjects. In order to achieve this objective, a literature study of research paradigms and research methods was done firstly. Two paradigms were followed in this study, namely positivism and interpretivism. The aspects of grounded theory and statistical data analysis (factor analysis and regression) are used as methods. Consequently a literature study was done to identify the factors that possibly have an influence on the success of learning of technology-based subjects. The result of this phase of the study is an initial model of factors that influences the learning of technology-based subjects. Interpretive research was done by means of interviews and interpretive questionnaires, to verify the factors identified from the literature and to develop the model. Statistical processing was done to test the contribution of the various factors in the model. The end result is a model of the factors that influences the learning of technology-based subjects. This model indicates the relationship between the identified factors. The learner's achievement in his final school examination is the factor indicative of making the greatest contribution in the model.
