The component elements of the phenomenon were also identified and a comparison drawn with existing literature. A literature study was conducted regarding the conceptualization of the phenomenon and a new unique operational definition developed. A study was also done regarding the causes, symptoms, consequences and interventions for handling the phenomenon. It was found that a positive relationship between frequency and intensity exists and that five factors occur with personnel practitioners being: frustration and demotivation, exhaustion, overloading and insecurity. personal achievement and depersonalization. Relationships were also found between demographic data and the above factors through the factor analysis. It is recommended that a universal definition as well as a comprehensive model of burnout be developed. In addition research should be expanded to investigate the occurrence of the phenomenon .in different job categories as it appears to manifest itself differently in different job categories.otherPsigiese uitbranding by personeelkundiges in Suid–AfrikaThesis
