Ouerverantwoordelikheid t.o.v. onderwys en opvoeding van sy kind tuis en die implikasies daarvan vir die onderwyser en die skoolorganisasie
Abstract
In modern era there has been an acceleration of social and economical changes and this often creates major problems for Christian parents. It is therefore necessary to reflect upon the responsibility of Christian parents for the education of their child. Family education is of a basic nature and includes all aspects of education from birth to adulthood and the parents are therefore responsible for the total education of their child during this period. It is, however, evident that parents cannot undertake the whole education of their child and need the assistance of the school and the church. The school plays an important role in supplementing parental education. The responsibility and influence of the school have become more and more important because of the parents’ inability or unwillingness to accept full responsibility for the education of their child. As a result of extended compulsory education and on account of the extension of pre-school education, the school has lately taken over a larger share of the parents’ responsibility. Syllabuses and methods have been revised resulting in more strenuous demands upon effort. Some practical problems now require urgent attention as well as further research. This study is an attempt to supplying answers to various questions. Among these is the problem of how parents can be activated and alerted to the fact that they are still responsible for the major part of their child’s education and should also interest themselves in that part of the education which has become the responsibility of the school and the church. There is the question of co-operation between home and school and it should also be ascertained whether the school organization and the teacher can cope with the new demands made on them, and if not, in what way the problem may be solved.
