dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study is to determine whether the school-migrant pupil's social adaptation, selfconcept and personality varies from those of the non-migrant schoolpupil. There is looked at the social development of the child from birth to adolessence. Influence of parents, the family, peergroups, society and the church are discussed. From the literature study it is clear that there are internal as well as external causes that can lead to residence migration, and therefore also schoolmigration. The conclusion is made that there is not much investigation about the social adaptation of the migrant pupil. Educators are well aware that the social adaptation of the migrant pupil is a problem that must be looked into. In the literature attention is given to the academic achievement of the migrant pupil. It is further derived from literature that a human being is dependent on other human beings and can't live without human interaction. Peergroup interaction is very important for the social development and adaptability of the child. From the data gained by the empirical investigation it appears that the migrant pupil experiences problems with his social adaptation in the new school. The investigation also shows that the selfconcept and the personality of the migrant pupil differ in certain aspects of those of the non-migrant pupil. Differences mainly occur with regard to the social aspects of the migrant pupil and non-migrant pupil. The study is concluded with several directives to help the migrant pupil with his adaptation in the new school.en_US
