    Abstract
This research aims at firstly , based on a study of the relevant literature, to determine the nature of work satisfaction and identify factors which influence work satisfaction/- dissatisfaction in the black female teacher, secondly to determine by means of an empirical study which factors influence the work satisfaction/-dissatisfaction of the black female teacher, and thirdly to make recommendations to school principals and eduction authorities as to how optimal work satisfaction can be ensured. The literature study was based on primary and secondary sources. A DIALOG computer search was undertaken on ERIC, GKPV and Repertorium . After a discussion of the nature of work satisfaction and identifying the most important factors which influence work satisfaction in the black female teacher, a questionnaire was compiled from existing questionnaires (that of Hillebrand,1989; Esterhuizen,1989 and the Minnesota Importance Questionnaire, 1985). These questionnaires were adapted from the literature study to address the unique situation of the black female teacher. All black female teachers in secondary schools in the Diamond field region (DET) were taken as target group. The method of systemized random group targeting was applied . Questionnaires were sent to black female teachers who fell within the group randomly targeted . The data obtained from the completed questionnaires, were processed with the help of a computer after which it was interpreted. Subsequent to these results recommendations were made. The main finding yielded by the research was that black female teachers experience more work satisfaction than is generally realized. Although there are factors which lead to dissatisfaction. such as physical working conditions, safety, and factors which centre around the education system, there are other factors which are sufficiently satisfied. The black female teacher is happy with her personal life and experiences satisfaction in her relationship with colleagues, her pupils and matters pertaining lo her leaching task .
